Jo is a fabulous media specialist in Coweta County. She shared some of the wonderful MakerSpaces she has used in her media center.
Step 1 in starting a MakerSpace decide on your focus. Jo decided her MS would be more technology based. She suggests you make a wish list. Her first year she asked for and received 5 iPads. She now has 27 iPads.
Code & Go Robot Mouse - great for little kids but older kids like it too, it's not as challenging.
Ozobots - Demco
BB8 - Scholastic Dollars
Merge Cubes
Dash & Dot & Cue - most impressed with Cue. Can purchase Wonder Kit

Funding Maker Spaces
Look for Grants - Dollar General, Donor's Choose
Someone has a school store in the library.
     Indiegogo - crowd funding

Maker's Club - Friday afternoons - limited to 16 students with a waiting list. All day behavior counts. (Certain number of strikes and they are out.) Forget to bring your Chromebook - get a strike, etc.
She started with Unplugged Coding - she got from Teacher's Pay Teachers.

GaETC 2018

11/13/2018

The first full week in November is always my favorite. As an Instructional Technology Specialist (1998 - 2003), classroom teacher (2003-2007), and Media Specialist (2007 - present) I have found GaETC to be one of the most exciting and informative geek out three days to be found. I meet up with friends from other schools and other counties and we have a blast! There is so much to learn and absorb... I have to sleep several days after attending because my brain hurts!

I plan to share my notes with you on this blog and thought I would add them session by session. I THINK I'm going to make a separate blog entry for each session to make it easier to search and type!  OK - my goal is to get this done before I retire (3 years, 10 months, and 17 days... but who's counting) AND yes, I have thought about "What will I do about GaETC when I retire?" I've already thought of that. VOLUNTEER!
